The Annual General Meeting was held on June 30, 2007 at the Holy Cross Church Hall, 77 Half Way Tree Road, Kingston 10.This event marked the 31st Anniversary of our credit union.
The President, Dr. Hemsley Stewart welcomed everyone present. He stated that in the passing of Mrs. Josephine Malcolm who was with the credit union for twenty-two years, he wished to thank the staff for holding together the credit union during this period. Dr. Stewart made special mention of Mrs. Suzette Denton-Hill and Ms. Vivienne Wallace, senior members of staff who performed outstandingly during the difficult period. He also thanked Mrs. Myrtle Taylor-Hay for providing support with her constant presence at the credit union during the challenging time. Dr. Stewart also mentioned that it was difficult to replace Mrs. Malcolm, however,with the help of the League, a suitable replacement has been found.
Ms. Phillipa Beckford, Sales and Marketing Manager from CUNA Mutual Group was our special guest speaker. Ms. Beckford first expressed her condolence on the loss of our Manager, Mrs. Malcolm, with whom she had along-standing relationship. She further congratulated us on reaching our31st anniversary. She observed that we were declaring 8% dividend, which was higher than the 6½% declared last year and expressed her belief that this type of interest rate is higher than the passbook rate and it is something we cannot ignore. She also indicated that it attests to the fact that it is an illusion to think that you can get better treatment anywhere else apart from your credit union.
Questions regarding the operation of the credit union were asked and prizes were won by the members for answering. Prizes were also awarded to two Youth Savers. One hundred and sixteen persons including eight visitors attended the Annual General Meeting. The visitors present were Mr. Eric Douglas, Ms. Marjorie Campbell and Ms. Nadia Byfield from the Co-operative Department, Mrs.Carmencita Soman from the Credit Union League and Ms. Phillipa Beckford from CUNA Mutual who was our guest speaker.
